The latest Android Canary version has added an icon “now played” in the application drawer. This icon is deactivated by default, but we have managed to activate it.
What secrets does the application icon contain? Not much at this stage. The tapping on the icon brings you to the page of the playing story, which is part of the Android System Intelligence application. You can access this page via a widget shortcut, so this is not a new access zone.
So why does Google plan to promote now play with its own application icon? The company has not officially announced the change or its justification, but we assume that it could be to bring more eyeballs to the functionalities.
Even if pixel users are quite informed, many do not know the reading functionality. If they did, they could not access the history of the songs recognized through functionality. Although the shortcut of the widget already exists for the home screen, it’s a bit hidden and some users never meet it. Giving functionality your own application icon in the application drawer indicates greater confidence in the capacity of the application, enough to start drawing more users to explore functionality.
