UH-OH: Google Maps Transit Plantages interfere with today’s journey

Tl; DR

  • Google Maps blocks for some users when they try to get transit instructions.
  • Other transport methods do not seem to be affected.
  • However, everyone on the same version of the application does not know the problem, and we contacted Google for more information.

The modern navigation software is higher than the paper cards for more reasons that we cannot count, and an excellent example is the way they can integrate into public transport systems. Instead of driving, cycling or walking everywhere, applications like Google Maps make it a cliché to plan trips that also integrate segments where we get on a bus or boarding on a train – even with an awareness of departure times. It’s great when it works. Right now, this is not the case.

Earlier in the day, reports began to circulate on Google Maps Sub of Reddit on a problem with transit instructions, summarized in an article by the user Xenonoxide. About a dozen pixel users will respond with reports from their own, and all those who get it seems to have the same problem.

For affected users, you can search for destinations and generate most types of navigation instructions very well, but when you press public transport, cards is blocked.

Android police was able to recreate this effect and confirm what users experienced during tests on version 25.30.00.785163646 of the MAPS application. We have tried to also check our own phones, but even after updating the cards 25.29.00.782600971 to this new version, we are always able to access the navigation instructions without causing crash.

Why this affects some users and no others, we cannot yet say, but the reports in the Reddit wire show that accidents always seem to take place during the last hour, which gives the impression that Google has not yet resolved the underlying problem. In fact, we do not see any mention of a problem Card status pageSo it may not even be widespread enough to be on the radar.

We have contacted Google to try to know if the company is aware of these accidents, and to see if there are measures that users who live them can take so that the cards work again.
