Durobo Krono: an electronic reader unique to Android which is anything but a smartphone

The Durobo Krono wants to face electronic paper players with a smartphone form factor. Although its specifications are not unknown, its design and some tips in its sleeve distinguish it from the rivals.

There is a market for electronic readers that have the form of smartphones such as Boox Palma 2 and Moaan Inkpalm 5, because they are more compact than conventional electronic readers like Kindle. Now there is a new challenger in this space called Durobo Krono, and it stands out from the competition with its design.

Described as an intelligent EPPAPER device, the Durobo (stylized like Durobo) Krono has a factor in shape similar to the Boox Palma 2. They even have practically identical specifications. Although the forehead does not seem special with its thick glasses, including a thicker chin, the back and sides are the most interesting parts. At the back of the Krono is a cylindrical tube that crosses the width of the phone. The cylinder ends in a dial on the left side of the device and a convex round button on the right. The dial on the left serves as a recording button when you press and hold it. Durobo says that users can quickly record an idea, a reminder or just a voice note which can then be converted into texts and summarized using the AI. A single pressure of the dial can be used to call the assistant AI embarked called Libby. Durobo does not say if the dial itself can be used to scroll through menus, web pages and texts.

Regarding specifications, the Krono has a Carta 1200 HD touch screen of 6.13 inch with a 1648 × 824 resolution (300 ppi) and a double -tone front light adjustable. It is powered by an octa-core processor associated with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It also has a battery capacity of 3,950 mAh which invoices via USB-C.

In addition to two microphones, the Krono also has speakers, which listens to audio books, podcasts or audio reading recordings. It runs an open version of Android 13, so that users can install Android applications such as WhatsApp which can be used to make voice calls via Wi-Fi connection because the Krono does not have a SIM card niche.
