I broke my pixel without casse-skids but I refuse to learn my lesson

Mitja Rutnik / Android Authority

I recently broke my pixel 7. In a period of a few weeks, I managed to drop it three times, breaking the display to the point that it does not even light up. The last drop was the most damaging: my pixel without casse-skids fell from my pocket directly on the concrete. Game finished.

What is ironic is that in December, I wrote an article on how I have never used an appropriate case, but I have never damaged any of my remote phones. I guess I hit it, and now it’s time to dig deep into my wallet and buy a new device.

You could probably think that I have learned my lesson and that I will now start using a case, just like most smartphones users, but you are wrong. Although I would have liked not to drop my phone and I could always use it, I have no regrets. My philosophy without case-skimming casseroles is there to stay, and a broken screen will not convince me the opposite.

Do you think I should start using a phone case?

Here is my logic

I have the impression that the chances are on my side. I bought my first mobile phone 26 years ago and my first smartphone 15 years ago, and this is the first time that I have been able to seriously damage one. Although I dropped a few over the years, the drops were minor, each device leaving the situation with a small scratch or two at most.

I am generally very cautious with all my devices, but I had a few difficult weeks and I did not pay enough attention, handling my phone with much less care than usual.

Lesson learned. I will not make this error twice. Since I have become without a case without decade for more than a decade and this is my first broken screen, I have the impression that the chances that it happens soon is minimal. So yes, I go without case without question, without a doubt.

Anyway, a box is not shot protection for a phone. It can always be damaged in a drop, especially when it fell in front of a rock, the edge of a table or something similar. Not the most common scenario, but hey, anything is possible.

In addition, it is not as if I had broken a brand new phone. My pixel 7 is now about three years old, and you know how it goes – you never take care of an old device quite the same as a new one. Given his age, it was time to upgrade anyway, so the broken screen is less worrying for me.

Buy a case already!

No, and I’m going to tell you why. There are a few things that bother me in cases. The first is that the phones I buy and use are generally more premium, with things like a metal frame and a glass back. My pixel 7, for example, was very good in hand. The metal could sometimes be a little cold to the touch, while the silky glass back gave a feeling of superior quality. These components cost money and are there to be appreciated, so I don’t want to slap a cheap plastic case on the phone.

A case covers the magnificent design of a phone.

A case also hides the magnificent design of a phone. I have always found strange how people talk so much about the colors of the phone and think about, to cover it with a generic case. Not me. A beautiful phone is like a work of art for me – I like to watch it.

Then there is the volume. Even a thin case adds a little mass to a device, and these things are too large anyway, so I don’t want to enlarge them.

So what phone will you get?

However, Pixel 9 is currently on sale and is also part of my budget, so I can get it. I prefer his design with his glass back, and he has a better camera system.

However, I was a fan of OnePlus, so something like the OnePlus 13R also seems attractive, especially because of the super fast load that I have always appreciated. But it is a big phone overall – too big for my taste – and it generally offers less than Pixel 9 for my personal desires and needs.

In addition, I also looked at the Galaxy S25, but it is still a little outside my budget at the moment. Pixel 9 is therefore. Without cases, of course.

What would make me move on to an appropriate case?

Is there a chance that I can swallow my words and start using a case like most others? Improbable, but possible. If I can somehow break or seriously damage the new phone that is coming soon, I can reconsider my life choices.

I trust my abilities to protect my phone from bumps and bruises.

Breaking a three -year phone that I wanted to replace anyway is one thing, but breaking one brand new in a few months is another. I am confident in my abilities to keep up of bumps and bruises, but if that does not turn out to be true and that an accident occurs, I will probably have to admit the defeat and buy a business.

I don’t think it will happen, however. Wish me good luck.

And you-Have you ever broken a box without box, or are you less clumsy than me? Let me know in the comments.
