The five main brands of Android -System smartphones in China – Honor, Lenovo, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi – have formed a platform to promote a new confidentiality authorization system, marking a key step towards the normalization of confidentiality protection among the users of Android in the era of artificial intelligence.
While the manufacturers of Chinese smartphones rush to equip the functionality of the AI, the question of the collection of data of users has become the objective of the debate. The Five Brands Initiative aims to find a balance between confidentiality protection and access to user data.
The brands will explore new mechanisms in conjunction to data to ensure the authorization of “transparent and controllable” data, according to a press release from the Cleminal Terminal Alliance (ITGSA), a non -profit organization formed by companies.
The initiative is based on the principle of what is “minimum and necessary”, and will manage access to data via system controls based on the native API and a platform examination and control mechanism.
The platform will identify five types of high-frequency data use scenarios, such as contacts, photos and videos. Privacy authorizations will be divided into system level and level of application. For example, photos are only accessible after a user has selected the file in the application. When the photos are displayed in the form of miniatures in the system, the application will not have access to the files.
