In a shared press release on their website, Apple has developed the update safety content. In particular, he focused on a vulnerability that affected Imageio, a framework that helps read and write most image formats and access metadata. According to the company:
“Impact: The processing of a malicious image file can cause memory corruption. Apple is aware of a report that this problem may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.”
Essentially, the attackers exploited a defect in Imageio which corrupted the memory of the device. According to the Ciso series, this could end by performing malware and even by installing spy software.
According to the press release, it was an “out -of -limited writing problem” and was resolved with “verification of improved limits”. The iOS 18.6.2 update was available for the iPhone XS and subsequent models, the 13 -inch iPad Pro, the IPAD PRO 12.9 inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11 inch of 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, IPAD 7th generation and later, and iPad Mini generation and subsequent models. A similar security feature was also published for MacOS Sequoia 15.6.1.
To install the update on a device, go to the iPhone settings, choose general and select Update software. Then click Download and install. According to Forbes, this is a small update of around 738 MB.
The update last week has corrected the blood oxygen monitoring function, which has disappeared on millions of Apple watches. In particular, this came from a patent dispute. At the time, no security problem was addressed, according to Forbes.
IOS 18 was published on July 29 and came with a long list of 29 security improvements. According to Forbes, the technology giant has not developed the exact threats treated. This is generally done to give people as much time as possible to install the update before the attackers put the details.
One of the fixes included defects in the webkit, the engine that supports the Safari browser, which allows sensitive user information to be exposed if they process artisanal web content in a malicious way. Daniel Card, an independent cybersecurity consultant, told Forbes that another correction had prevented his password from reading by voice Off. The other treated problems included the mail app, Wi-Fi connectivity and battery emptying.
There is no evidence that there will be an iOS 18.7 update which drops before the launch of iOS 26, scheduled to make its debut in September.
