San Jose aims to be the capital of American AI
Today, the city of San Jose has announced the four winners of its AI incitement program: a subsidy initiative they call the first of its kind. City officials say they have looked for companies working on large problems such as maternal health, food reduction and the next generation of satellite data processing.
San Jose, California. – The city of San Jose announced the winners of its IA incentive program, a subsidy initiative they call the first of its kind.
City officials have selected four companies that deal with major problems, including maternal health, reduction in food waste and data processing by satellite.
Among the winners is Metafoodx, a company using AI to combat food waste. Hope is that restaurants and catering operators can optimize and save.
“With the data, at the moment, they can reduce their overproduction by 50% in a few weeks. This is what we really saw in the field,” said Metafoodx CEO.
Metafoodx chose San Jose as head office due to the ECOC ecosystem booming in the city, the abundance of talents and the government of support.
“When the private sector and the government can be aligned with the vision, where things should happen, how we have to approach it, then things go much faster,” said Gong.
Winners receive a subsidy of $ 50,000
What we know:
The mayor of San Jose, Matt Mahan, an ardent AI defender, announced the subsidy recipients:
- East: A maternal health company led by AI is associated with Medicaid to identify high -risk pregnancies early. The platform uses AI voice agents to connect proactively with patients at risk, helping to reduce maternal mortality and improve health results.
- Metafoodx: An AI platform embodied for smart kitchens that helps restaurants and food service operators reduce waste and optimize operations. Founded by Fengmin Gong, co-founder of Palo Alto Networks.
- Clika: A hardware optimization company that compresses and compiles AI models in low -power and equipment formats, to improve accessibility and efficiency between on -board devices.
Each of these companies received a subsidy of $ 50,000. In addition, Satlyt, a start-up of space-based space technology that incorporates satellites in a decentralized virtual cloud to improve the processing of satellite data, received a subsidy of $ 25,000.
San Jose aims to be a world capital of AI
Dig more deeply:
Beyond the subsidies, the mayor Mahan launched an AI excellence center, an update program for city workers and a series of pilot projects to optimize city services such as bus roads.
“We are all the best for that and San Jose is much closer to being the final capital of AI in the world. It is a talented game. In the end, the most innovative places have the greatest density of talent,” said Mahan.
The AI grant attracted 170 candidates, and William Gaviria Rojas, CTO Field and coactive Coactive IA, helped select the winners.
“The subsidies will have a really positive impact, but in general, it gives the right signal that San Jose is a city that really thinks in the future,” he said.
The subsidy beneficiaries have also received tax reductions and professional services, but Metafoodx is the most enthusiastic about the network they have won.
“I think that is why to obtain this subsidy, I consider it as a starting point. I then want to be able to work more closely with the community,” said Gong.
City officials report that San Jose now houses 91 AI startups supported by a company worth around 6 billion dollars.
