- The new Pixel 10 series incorporates the “Extra DIM” function directly into the main brightness cursor, which facilitates access.
- This deletes the need for a separate rocking, because an additional DIM is now automatically activated when the brightness cursor is at its minimum.
- Although the function has been tested on older pixels, it is currently exclusive to Pixel 10, although it can arrive at other devices later.
The new Google Pixel 10 series introduces display of display surprise, focusing more on the visualization of comfort than on major material modifications. Although the display panels themselves are largely unchanged, they should be easier in the eyes thanks to new features such as adaptive tone and an improved PWM gradation rate. Another notable change is lower, a feature that makes the screen even darker than its lowest material brightness parameter. On the Pixel 10, Google has integrated an additional DIM directly into the brightness cursor, which makes it much easier to control than on previous pixel phones.

Extra DIM is an accessibility feature Google introduced in Android 12 in 2021. It decreases the display “Beyond the minimum brightness of your phone” by modifying the red, green and blue data before it is returned. This process reduces the intensity of the bright colors, which means that the content appeared without lowering the level of material brightness of the screen.
On most Android phones, you activate a lower by accessing the parameters> Accessibility> Extra DIM or adding its shortcut to the quick settings panel. Because it must be lit manually, you must also remember to turn it off. It can be annoying, because many people probably forget to deactivate it in the morning, leaving their screen gradator that it should not be during the day.
The Google solution to this problem is to integrate an additional DIM directly into the brightness cursor, deleting the need to turn it on manually. Android will automatically allow a lower when you move the cursor to its absolute minimum and deactivate it as soon as you lift the brightness again. Since the lighting of brightness is a frequent action for most users, there is little chance of accidentally leaving low facility activated during the day.
Google has been working on DIM’s additional integration into the brightness cursor for more than a year now, the functionality even making an appearance on the Pixel 9 in the first overviews of Android 16. However, with the stable version of Android 16, the function was nowhere on the Pixel 9 or any other pixel phone, as I noted in my review.
However, with the launch of the Pixel 10, Google finally allowed the new functionality. When configuring the device, several users were greeted by a new dialog box that can be read this dialog box appears when users try to press the additional DIM shortcut in quick settings. He indicates that “you can now make the additional screen lower by lowering the brightness level even more. Since this feature is now part of the brightness cursor, weaker shortcuts are deleted. ”
Although this feature is only available on the Pixel 10 series so far, it is possible that Google can bring it to older pixel devices in a future update. After all, Google briefly tested it on the Pixel 9 series a few months ago, and there should not be any material limitations that prevent it from working on existing devices. The delay could be due to the fact that the functionality is based on an implementation of an updated display supplier which has not yet deployed on older pixels, but we are not entirely safe. If Google introduces this functionality on older pixels, we will inform you.
