For any reason, all users of Beta 3.1 did not receive the stable version of Android 16 QPR1, and they are now confronted with Google Wallet / Pay and VPN.
The OTA Android 16 QPR1 “No erasure of data” began to deploy two weeks ago for certain beta 3.1 users. However, it is not yet available for all the testers who have withdrawn from the beta program (because they do not yet want to be on QPR2). Our pixel tablet has received said ota, but it is absent on a Pixel 8A.
Those who are still on Android 16 QPR1 BETA 3.1 now receive a warning message with TAG-TO-PAY. The opening of Google Wallet reveals the message “Device does not meet the security requirements”: “This device can be rooted or run unrefitted software. Contact your device manufacturer or visit Google Wallet for more information.”
That said, after pressing “Got IT”, everything works normally for most users. For others, Google Pay do not work.
Meanwhile, we notice a problem with the VPN on the pixels by Google refusing to connect to Beta 3.1. It simply displays the error “is not available for this account”.
The update “without erasure of data” generally deploys without problem after the stable version. It remains to be seen if Google awaits the October 2025 security fix at this stage.
A more immediate solution for those affected is Join the Android beta program For QPR2 Beta 2. It’s quite stable, but you could have a problem with the multimedia player that does not appear on The Lockscreen. (Locking screen widgets can be used as bypass.)
