Samsung presents Android XR safety guidelines during reservations

The first Android XR headset launches on October 21, and Samsung has laid down some ground rules before the Galaxy device goes official.

Samsung has officially launched its Galaxy Reservation Program for its Android XR headset, and the company has confirmed that it will launch the product at the end of October. All this means the wheels are moving and the company is about to launch an Apple Vision Pro competitor.

Ahead of its full announcement, Samsung released some details regarding the headset’s safety and usage (via SammyGuru). On the one hand, Samsung limits the age of users to 13 and above. The company notes general fit and eye safety concerns for younger users. The guidelines also make users aware of the risk of seizures related to flashing lights, as well as dizziness related to prolonged use.

Unsurprisingly, the guidelines confirm that Samsung’s Galaxy Android XR headset is not intended to be worn with glasses. Even hard contact lenses are specified because they can interfere with eye tracking, making it inconsistent. Soft contacts are fine though. This is similar to most VR/XR headsets. There’s simply not enough room for a pair of glasses when the headset is on, and the Apple Vision Pro headset meets the same limitations when it comes to contact choices.

Samsung notes that lens kits will be available for those who need an adjustment.

Reservations are open for Samsung’s first Android XR headset, and the same rules as previous Galaxy reservation periods apply. Registration is free and no purchase is required. Still, it’s an easy way to get $100 off the device when it becomes fully available.
