Perplexity first launched its Comet browser earlier this year, with early access via a waitlist. While the AI Browser is now available for free download, users are still waiting for a mobile version to be released. Now we may have gotten our first look at what a mobile version of Comet looks like, at least on Android. It’s important to start by saying that Perplexity itself has not revealed any information on when to expect the mobile version of its browser on iOS and Android. However, you can currently pre-register for Comet browser on the Google Play Store.
Of course, this doesn’t mean the browser will be available anytime soon, and it’s unclear how long Perplexity might leave it in a “beta” state before releasing a wider version. The lag may not be a bad thing after all, as there are reasons why you might want to avoid using Comet – or any other AI browser, for that matter. But if you’re not concerned about these possible issues or the fact that Perplexity’s CEO wants Comet to know everything about you, you might want to sign up for the beta.
Perplexity begins testing Comet on Android
According to a video shared by User X @TheAdwaithVarma (via Android Authority), it appears that Comet’s smartphone app will feature a simplistic interface. The splash screen says “Welcome to Comet” along with several possible prompts to help you get started. There is a chat box at the bottom of the screen to quickly query LLMs. There also appears to be an “Add Widgets” button, so you should be able to add different widgets to help your workflow – although we don’t have a full rundown of what exactly is available.
In addition, another message from the same user displays a welcome screen saying Slide to get started, along with various clock widgets and frequently visited sites – a pretty standard layout for a browser. Perplexity initially launched Comet to its Max subscribers, so it could very well follow a similar model with Comet on mobile devices.
