SoftBank Group Corp. explores potential acquisitions, including data center operator Switch Inc., as billionaire founder Son Masayoshi is accelerating the search for deals that can help it address the AI-fueled digital infrastructure boom, people with knowledge of the matter said.
The Japanese company has held discussions with Switch management and conducted due diligence on the closely held company, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is confidential. SoftBank is also in advanced talks about a potential purchase of one of Switch’s major private equity backers, New York-listed investment firm DigitalBridge Group Inc., Bloomberg News reported last week.
