Ironton City Council moves to keep AI data centers out

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) – The Ironton City Council held a meeting Thursday evening to take preventative measures to prevent AI data centers from setting up shop within city limits.

We spoke with City Council member Jacob Hock, who said he has concerns on several fronts. This is why he organized an emergency vote to temporarily ban the development of these facilities.

“I wish there were more people in leadership positions who would voice their opinions on this,” Hock said. “In my opinion, this is not just about data centers, but also the future of Lawrence County. »

Thursday evening was the first reading of the measure. The bill was ultimately passed and will now receive a second reading at the next council meeting.

If passed, the ban would be in effect for up to one year.
