Google’s Android XR glasses made their first appearance on stage

  • Google recently shown prototypes of Android XR intelligent glasses at the current TED conference.
  • The main features of the next Android XR glasses will include live translation, real -time objects recognition, applications management, etc., all treated via a paired smartphone to keep light glasses.
  • Although it is not clear if Google will launch its own smart glasses, Samsung would be ready for the market with its next smart “Haean” glasses.

Google may have given us an overview of what its future Android XR intelligent glasses could look like. During the current TED conference in Vancouver (via Axios), Shahram Izadi, who directs Ar and VR initiatives at Google, has taken the stage with what looked like an ordinary pair of glasses. But they were not glasses. They operated on the prototypes of google Android XR glasses.

The Android XR glasses promise to be one of the most exciting progress in the extended reality space. They abandon the bulky helmets for a more elegant and comfortable design and could make XR Tech more accessible and affordable. Powered by Gemini, Google AI, glasses aim to become a whole new interface: remember to launch applications, to use Circle to search in real time, to play games, to manage data, to navigate with Google Maps projected in your line of view, and more. We also recently discovered that Android Auto could prepare for support for smart glasses.

We still do not know if Google will publish these glasses under its own brand, but we know with certainty that they are deeply in development. Several publications have already been practical with the first prototypes, which included various styles, from classic glasses to sunglasses. The prescription lenses are also part of the plan.

These glasses work with your phone, flowing back and forth.

During the demo Ted, Izadi and a colleague would have have shown certain cases for Android XR glasses, including the live translations from Farsi to English fueled by Gemini, scanning the content of a book and a memory function that allowed AI to recall what the camera has seen in the recent past. Izadi also claimed that the glasses showed him his speeches.

These prototypes have an integrated camera, a goal display, a microphone and speakers. A connected smartphone does all the heavy work, keeping the light glasses.

“These glasses work with your phone, streaming from front to back, allowing glasses to be very light and access all your phone applications,” said Izadi.

Glasses demo then showed how the platform would allow users to open connected Google applications such as Youtube music, Google Maps, etc.

As we have already said, we do not know if we will never see Google’s own smart glasses on the market, but thanks to Samsung, we could get a pair of Android XR glasses very soon. According to a recent report, Samsung plans a double launch for his Moohan Headset project and a pair of smart glasses called “Haean”. Haeen intelligent glasses should prioritize comfort by showing various facial shapes and include several cameras and sensors to follow the movement.
