What Android Auto features then arrive?

Google constantly publishes new updates Android Auto, but new features often seem rare. What is on the roadmap? In this article, we break down new features to come on Android Auto.

Gemini will replace Google Assistant

Chronology: More news on Google E / S

Officially delighted by Google himself, Gemini is on the way to Android Auto.

While Google Assistant fades, Gemini’s beginnings were foreshadowed by the code results and the first glimpses of the software, but he has not yet arrived. From what we have seen, Google seems to replace the assistant with Gemini completely on Android Auto, and it also seems that the Gemini Live features will also be supported in the car.

While the confidence that it was going to happen was already raised, Google confirmed that Gemini would arrive on Android Auto (and Android Autotmotive) in recent announcements, including its Google I / O 2025 teasers. Probably, more information on this version will be available at E / S which take place from May 20 to 21.

A light theme

Chronology: sooner than late, but unknown

After having appeared for the first time in 2023, Google still seems to work on a light theme for Android Auto. This new theme would probably be available alongside the existing dark design. The theme extends through the main user interface as well as applications.

Based on the most recent glimpse of manually, this new theme seems almost ready for the release, which means that it could happen sooner than late.

Some have called it the “redesign of materials” of Android Auto. This is not true. Google implemented (certainly limited) the equipment of your theme last year. It is simply easier to see on this new light theme.

Climate

Chronology: any day now, but the biggest question is compatibility

Another feature on which Google works – which we have reported for the first time earlier this year – is the management of climate controls. Google was building functionality in a few months and recently the buttons have been manually allowed to show what it looks like.

We still don’t know when this feature takes place (or who even needs it), but the biggest question is how it really works. Android Auto generally does not have access to the various checks of your car, but climatic checks would obviously require a fairly deep integration, which, to date, we are not even sure on the cars that support the Google platform. This is very good in the territory “wait and see”.

Chronology: Unknown

As we spotted for the first time in mid-2014, Google works on a local media and radio form in Android Auto. Google has built these features for months Seveal, with control advice from FM / AM radio stations, access to “local media” and more.

These features have not yet surfaced (aka to be activated manually) in a functional way, but we have identified certain icons in the Auto Android Application linked to functionality.

Associated coverage:

More call applications

Chronology: Unknown

In one of its application updates, the code has been spotted regarding the addition of new call applications on Android Auto. Specifically, the code alludes to “external devilish” applications. The information on this feature is incredibly limited, and there is no word at the time it could happen for Android Auto.

Associated coverage:

“ Alert cards ” checks

Chronology: Unknown

Hidden in a recent beta version, Android Auto has laid the basics of “alerts” checks from cards. This seems to be linked to Google Maps incident reports which, for some, were more boring than they are useful.

The code read as follows:

  • Alert
  • Get alerts for reported incidents and other conditions that may have an impact on your reader

No progress has yet been made on this functionality.
