Patreon Update allows fans to get around 30% Apple costs in the iOS application, more modifications to come

Patreon has published an updated version of its iOS application which allows fans of the United States to bypass the integrated Apple payment system when registering for new memberships, effectively avoiding the 30% commission of the App Store.

With the update promised now live (via Techcrunch), Fans based in the United States using the Patreon application can choose a new cash register for subscriptions that does not rely on Apple’s integrated purchasing system. The new option is currently limited to creators using the Patreon subscription billing model, which invoices fans on the date they register rather than on a monthly or fixed creation calendar.

The update to propose “Alternative payment options for American fans registering for new memberships,” explains Patreon. “Currently, this applies only for creators on the billing of subscription as invoicing models inherited first in the month and by creation are still not able to accept new inscriptions in iOS.”

Patreon says that it also works quickly to allow alternative payment options for punctual payments in a future update. Until then, creators using inherited billing models cannot still accept new memberships via the iOS application. The company also examines its deadline in November 2025 to spend all creators to billing “pending” subscription following last week’s court decision.

This is always a development situation, but we are going ahead by assuming that the Dead date of November 2025 So that all Patreon creators do not go to the subscription invoicing is no longer necessary for the small group of creators who are always on inherited billing models.

Although additional information can arrive that modify Apple’s requirements for the IOS application of Patreon, we are optimistic that this decision will give us more flexibility in the way we support the creators on the inherited billing models. However, for the moment, creators must still be on the subscription invoicing to be able to accept payments via the Patreon iOS application.

For those who always want to proceed to the subscription billing, our team is happy to help the transition, because it always unlocks access to the latest growth tools on Patreon, such as gifts, the automatic pilot and level replay.

Although the full impact of the court’s decision is still going on, Patreon says that he will continue to prioritize transparency, control and stability when he adapts to the new set of rules in the United States. Additional updates are expected while the company extends the support for creators to all billing models.

Meanwhile, Apple appealed the decision on Monday as promised.

The decision of the court last week – required Apple to allow developers to offer other payment methods without commission – resolves at least one question that began to affect Patreon in August.
