Amazon has discreetly published an update of the Kindle application on iPhone and iPad. In the United States, customers, during the visualization of a book, now have a new option entitled “Get Book”. It then opens your default internet browser and redirects you to the list of books on the Amazon.com website, where the electronic book can be purchased. The purchase is then automatically synchronized with the Kindle application.
Why did Amazon suddenly redirect to their website, when they did not do this before? This was due to a court decision in the United States on April 30. Apple is obliged to receive a commission of 27% on purchases made outside of applications or to restrict how developers can direct users to alternative payment options. Apple appealed the decision, but also complies with the interval, which prompted Spotify and other companies to follow suit.
The purchase of electronic books is now more intuitive for the average customer. It is clearly specified how they can buy electronic books. In the past, customers could only download samples, and there were thousands of messages a day on social networks; Ask why they couldn’t buy books on the Kindle application.
The Get books system is only available in the United States and not in countries like Canada or the United Kingdom. It is not clear if Apple wins the call, if Amazon will come back from the GET books system that they have just implemented.
