The US is reviewing Benchmark’s investment into Chinese AI startup Manus

Manus AI is one of the most popular AI agent startups around, recently collecting $ 75 million to an evaluation of half a billion dollars in a round led by a reference.

But two anonymous sources said Semaor that the investment is currently being examined by the US Treasury Department for its compliance with restrictions in 2023 on investment in Chinese companies.

Benchmark lawyers have released the investment because Manus does not technically develop its own AI models, but is rather a “wrapper” around those existing, reported Semaor.

These lawyers also concluded that manus is not based in China because it is incorporated into the Cayman Islands. (It is a common structure used by Chinese companies, Like Alibabato access foreign capital.)

Benchmark aroused criticism of his investment manus from the partner of the founders, Delian Asparouhov, who posted on X “Wow, the actions have consequences”?

The reference, the manus and the treasure did not immediately respond to the requests for comments.
