Fortnite fans hoping to return to action on iPhones or iPads are unlucky, once again.
Epic Games confirmed that Apple prevented the game from Ios, which makes Fortnite unavailable on iPhones and iPads in the world.
This decision comes just when Fortnite had made a limited return to the European Union through the Epic Games store, made possible by new regulations under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). But now, Epic says that Apple has closed everything, citing a rejection of their submission to the American App Store store and the European version of the Epic Games Store.
In an article on X (formerly Twitter), the official Fortnite account did not hold back:
“Apple has blocked our” Fortnite “submission so that we cannot free up to the American App Store or to the Epic Games store for iOS in the European Union. Now, unfortunately, Fortnite on iOS will be offline in the world until the breakdown is.”
This is not the first time that the two technology giants have come up. Epic and Apple were at the legal war against the 30% commission of the App Store on integrated purchases since 2020. Epic challenged this system by trying to bypass Apple’s payment configuration, leading to the abolition of Fortnite of the App Store and a long legal battle.
Recently, an American courtyard ruled that Apple should allow developers to offer other payment options. Apple has technically respected, but added a socket: any transaction made outside the App Store would still be faced with costs of 27%.
This decision did not know the court well. In a scathing opinion, the judge accused Apple of having tried to circumvent the decision. The court described the costs of 27% of “obvious concealment” and said that Apple’s behavior “supported credulity”, which clearly indicates that the technology giant was still engaged in anti -competitive driving to protect its income.
Now Epic is taken again in the middle. After being forced to draw his submission and reapply, Fortnite has still not been approved. Apple did not specify publicly why the submission was blocked, but Epic points to continuous resistance to third -party stores on iOS as a root problem.
So what is the next step for Fortnite on iOS? For the moment, the game remains offline on Apple devices, without any clear calendar for its return. If you want to play Fortnite on mobile, the options are currently limited to Android or Cloud game platforms.
The battle of Epic with Apple highlights the growing pressure on technology giants to open their platforms. And while the new regulations in the EU try to force this change, the last movement of Apple shows that the fight is far from over.
If Fortnite will once again find a permanent house on iOS Is anyone guess. But one thing is clear, this fight is not only a game. It is about knowing who can control the future of mobile platforms.
