The Baltimore 911 call and distribution center will officially launch the system during this weekend Artscape Festival, which is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. Managers say that technology has been developing for over a year and is designed to provide faster, smarter and more precise emergency responses.

How does it work?
The new system incorporates AI with geolocation and routing of calls in real time. During the event, a team of dedicated distributors working from the city’s emergency center (EOC) will be able to locate incidents with a specific precision in the area in the seven designated art zones.
Using remote and geofencing call technology, calls from the festival can be separated from the regular volume of call of the city, helping to facilitate pressure on the wider system of 911.
“It is the first time that a city of our scale, with the volume of call that we have managed, does something like that,” said Wayne Harris, operations manager of Baltimore 911. “We think Artscape was the perfect time to test technology.”
Reddick also noted that the system includes real -time linguistic translation features to help non -English speakers, allowing distributors to instantly communicate in Spanish, French, Arabic and other languages.
Baltimore center 911 manages more than 1.4 million calls each year – around 3,500 per day. Managers say that this new tool will allow them to isolate calls related to high traffic events while maintaining service levels in the rest of the city.
After Artscape, the system should be deployed during other major events in the city, including Afram and winter festivals.
“If you are in Artscape and call 911, nothing changes for you,” said Harris. “But behind the scenes, we use this new system to make sure that your call is answered and that help arrives faster.”
