- A Galaxy S23 Ultra spent five hours underwater in an icy arctic river and has always worked perfectly.
- The IP68 note of the phone does not cover these conditions, which makes survival more surprising.
- He follows the recent history of a Pixel 8 which endured four days in a whirlpool and came out unscathed.
Most of us fear droping our phones in a puddle or sink, not to mention an arctic river covered with ice. But a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra just raised the shoulders and propelled as if nothing was happening.
According to Samsung editorial roomWilderness Mikael Krekula’s Swedish guide was on the equipment of frozen Sonar of the Kalix river when its Galaxy S23 Ultra slipped from its glove and fell into an ice fishing hole. He plunged about three meters into freezing water and was trapped under the ice for the next five hours.
Determined not to give up, Mikael has pierced several new holes in the surrounding ice and has shaped a series of tools – including birch branches, a plastic bag, and finally a summer fishing net attached to a stick – to try to fish it. After hours of effort, he finally succeeded. At its shock, the phone immediately mounted, displaying some missed calls as if everything was completely normal.
Mikael Krekula saved its ultra Galaxy S23 from the Arctic River after five hours.
S23 Ultra has an IP68 side, which means that it is officially protected from dust and can survive up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes. But the conditions of the Arctic, a greater depth and five hours under water are far beyond what the Galaxy specification sheet promises.
It is not the only phone that recently rocked the elements. Barely a few weeks ago, a pixel 8 which spent four days overwhelming in a whirlpool has always worked very well. In both cases, phones have challenged their notes in fairly extreme conditions.
For Mikael, whose phone is a rescue buoy in the distant Arctic for navigation, translation and night photography, the whole was an alarm clock. He has now added a fishing net to his winter survival kit.
