Openai CEO Sam Altman, bets that AI could soon help “discover new knowledge” and said it was already starting to act as your junior levels.
“You hear people who talk about their work now, it is to give work to a lot of agents, to look at the quality, to understand how it integrates, to give comments, and it looks very much like they work with a team of still relatively junior employees,” said Altman about AI agents on Monday during the Snowflake Summit 2025, Snowflake, Snowflake, Sridhar Ramaswamy.
“I would bet next year that in some limited cases, at least in some ways, we are starting to see agents who can help us discover new knowledge or can find solutions to commercial problems which are somehow very non -trivial,” added Altman.
The main conversation at the Snowflake Summit – which explored how organizations can stimulate the immediate impact by the power of the AI - intervenes while new data show that AI already replaces human workers.
Zanele Munyikwa, an economist of Revalio Labs, spoke with Aki Ito of Business Insider on his analysis of online job offers and the impact of AI since the publication of Chatgpt at the end of 2022. As ITO wrote, “she found that in the last three years, the share of online work has decreased by 19%”. “In roles, Munyikwa has identified as more vulnerable to AI, such as the administrators of the database and computer specialists, the slowdown in hiring was as high as 31%.
During the last quarter, Shopify said that his managers had to explain why a job could not be managed by AI before requesting new hires, and Duolingo, the language learning application, said that she would replace contract workers with AI.
In February, Openai launched the GPT-4.5, which Altman called “the first model that wants to speak to a thoughtful person”. He also described the model as “giant” and “dear”. Deployment is limited to pro subscribers until GPU shortage is resolved.
OPENAI also recently launched Codex, a new AI agent aimed at rationalizing coding tasks for developers by writing code, correcting bugs and performing tests. Altman said that it was already used by Openai’s own engineers. Unlike traditional chatbots, the multitasking AI agent can also interact with external software to perform tasks like making a booking for dinner.
