- Pixel phones could soon get a gesture “Double press to turn off the screen” in the Android 16 QPR1 update.
- A new switch to this gesture should appear in the parameter application under the system gestures.
- However, this double valve gesture would only work on the lock screen, not on the home screen.
Using the power button to wake up your phone can be annoying if it is on a table or stand. To remedy it, many Android phones allow you to double the screen to activate it. Many of these phones also support the opposite – by tapping double supporting the screen to deactivate it – which is practical when you have finished using your device. Pixel phones, however, are currently lacking in this practical screen excluding gesture, but Google could finally add it in the first quarterly version of Android 16.

By searching in the Android version 16 QPR1 Beta 1, we found new channels in the Settings application that suggests a “Double press to turn off the screen»The page will soon appear under Settings> System> Gestures. The page will have a rocking to allow this new double fitting screen, which allows you to “double an empty space on the locking screen to turn off the screen”.
Code
Double tap to turn off screen
Double tap an empty space on the lock screen to turn off the screen.
The page is not yet live in Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1, but here is what it will look like when it is online:

In April, we pointed out that Google was working on a double tap screen excluding gesture for Pixel phones. Although we managed to operate the gesture, it was not clear if Google would provide a user -oriented parameter. With the Android version 16 QPR1 Beta 1, we now know that a rocking for this function will indeed appear in the Settings application.
Unfortunately, we also learned that this double tap gesture will only work on the lock screen, not on the home screen. This is disappointing because it means that the main use of the gesture will be to deactivate the screen after checking the notifications of the lock screen. Some third -party Android launchers allow you to double the home screen to deactivate it, so remember to explore them if you want this wider feature.
Although the gesture double tap screen seems ready, we don’t know exactly when it will take place. It will probably be online in a future beta version or with the stable version of Android 16 QPR1. When it is put online, we will inform you.
