I change phone more than ever, here’s how I stay a healthy mindset

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

When I started to Android authorityThe review season was quite well contained. I knew that I was for a occupied tech and techtuber, but the rest of the year would allow me to focus on one or maybe two devices at a time. Now this calendar is through the window. There are major launches apparently every month, embracing new form factors, new versions of Android and smartphone cameras that are more powerful than ever before. And honestly, it can be overwhelming.

Fortunately, during my years of passing a phone at the next week, I learned a few things. I even had to relearn something or two to follow the new features of the AI, in the hope of keeping my head straight. And, even if you probably don’t have to change your phone as often as I am, here are some things that make me blow up from an Android phone at the next with relative ease.

Start again from zero

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Before jumping in my tips to configure a new Android phone, I should give you a glance behind the curtain. After all, there is a slight difference between removing a phone from the box and turning it on and configuring it to feel like yours. Everyone can do the first with little help, but the latter can be a process.

So let’s talk about me. When I plunge into a new criticism, I keep things quite simple. I still have only one main SIM card, which means a main phone number, whatever the phone in my pocket. I also connect to two Google accounts on each Android device – one for work and staff – and then I am ready to leave. Is it always a headache to go to an ESIM iPhone only once or twice a year? Yes, but it’s easier than having a second phone number, because how do my friends know who to send SMS to?

In addition, I usually start at zero each time I configure a new device. I do not care about my existing Android backups, because it could be a certain time between visits to a Google Pixel or Motorola Razr, so I could not need the same applications or want the same layout the next time I will come back. I take my new start as a chance to try every Android flavor in its cleanest form before deciding what to add and how I want to have it.

My best tips for when you change

Now that you have a reference base for the way I approach each new Android phone, let’s talk about funny things – you know, things that make each phone unique. These are not difficult and fast rules – you may find that they are the opposite of your taste – but they seem to work well for me. Let’s dive.

How often do you save your Android phone?

Be ready to make a new connection

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

First, it seems that our phones require more connections than ever. With the rise of AI partnerships, as a Motorola teams up with perplexity in her latest Razrs series, it has become like things. So in this spirit, be ready to make it one or two new ones. This time, however, be sure to read the terms of everything you accept – especially if you find yourself forming an AI model.

For me, it involved the creation of accounts for Motorola himself to access the basic Moto AI, Perplexity and Chatppt features, just to make sure I could access any ride that my ultra-beloved razr launched me. In recent months, however, I also had to create a Lenovo account when configuring the Yoga Plus tab, which is extremely separated from my Motorola account.

I cannot say that I like to have essentially a dozen different variations on the same connection, just as I hate having a dozen other streaming platforms to watch a full season of football, but it is the world in which we live now. This trick also adapts well in my second, which could have guess …

Google’s password manager is always pretty good

Yes, the next one is a reminder that you really really have a password manager. I have just shaken three or four accounts that I have created in recent months, and this does not count my temporary spin around the world of Paramount more or does not register for Garmin’s Connect Plus. Previously, I think I directed people to Lastpass or even 1 Password, but these days are behind me.

Now I am all about Google’s password manager at any time. It is already cooked in almost all major Android skin, making it a breeze to install whenever you connect to your Google account on a new phone. It also synchronizes with my chrome browser and the chromebooks that I have used over the years, giving me a flawless password manager every time I use a Google product.

However, I am not comfortable to let Google generate and store new passwords for me because I am always terrified that I can lose access to my password manager and, by extension, whatever the accounts he recorded.

Do not hesitate to lose old applications and files

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Because I have configured each new phone from zero, this next advice should not be surprising either. You might think that your new phone needs every application that your old one had, but that is probably not the case. Yes, maybe you are more effective than me, keeping your applications essential and removing everything else once it has served its goal, but it is easier to say.

So, as you are configuring a new phone, I recommend that you jump the section of the backup phase application. After all, the Motorola phone illustrated above has sent with a few games, a copy of the Chime and Facebook application installed directly from the box – which I really use. If I had to save this phone before moving to a new one, I would be stuck with the same level of Bloatware, taking even more storage space because my new phone could be delivered with one or two additional applications.

It’s like overtake something or give it to the next person … Only you double it and restore it to yourself. Instead, I would say to start nothing (and probably skip the additional applications that your phone suggests you download). Then go to the Play Store, go to your application page and filter by not installed. Now you can go down the list, pressing only the jumping applications to install. This method freed me from all kinds of unnecessary applications – games that I no longer play in dating applications that look like games half the time too.

Choose a new layer of paint

If I harassed it once, I harassed a dozen times, but it is not because your old phone worked well. And no, I’m not just talking about the fact that your new screen could be bigger than your old one. If you have decided to jump from Motorola to Samsung or Samsung to nothing, you will quickly realize that all applications, widgets or files are not created.

So, I suggest you open your phone regardless of its default layout, spend a day with this, then work to determine the widgets you want or need. I thought I would do this with the 3A phone illustrated above, but I kept the layout as is. It just puts the right widgets at hand, which facilitates the verification of the weather or the development of my fully loaded Google folder, but it is also easy to draw into the essential space, to switch not to disturb and to modify my parameters of nothing x (for headphones, not an ex-twitter) without opening the application drawer.

Meanwhile, my essential Samsung arrangement also seems completely different, prioritizing some larger files along the lower edge with one or two widgets higher on the screen. I guess you can also try DIY Home if a user interface is your favorite version of Android, but it is a type of chaos that I am not sure to support.

Don’t be afraid to start again … again

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

The last thing I learned from the creation of several dozen phones per year is that it is not so deep. None of this – it’s your phone. If you wake up one day and no longer like how you have presented your home screen, or if you think your wallpaper is dated, change it. This time, however, I suggest that you save your phone because there is a better chance that you have reduced the applications you use, at least if you have followed my other suggestions. Then, if you notice that your semi-fresh departure was a little too fresh, you can come back to the way your phone was before.

According to my experience, however, the change is sometimes exactly what you need. This can be fun and exciting to try a new Android skin or a traditional candybar style phone exchange with a rocking phone or a book foldable, and you will probably find yourself looking at your favorite operating system in a whole new way. And no, I know that most people will not have the same flexibility to exchange phones I make, but I think you will find easier than ever to choose a winning Android phone when you decide to upgrade.
