iOS 26 includes three small but significant changes for screenshots.
The next software update adds a new screenshot menu to the Settings application, under general. There are a few useful tilting.
First, there is now an option for HDR screenshots. When this format is selected, all HDR photos or videos in screenshots will actually appear in HDR with a full dynamic range, when seen on newer iPhone models and other supported devices.
Apple says that HDR screenshots use the HIF image format. There is always an option for SDR screenshots, which are saved in the form of PNG files.
Second, Carplay screenshots finally operate on an opt-in basis. On iOS 18 and earlier, take a screenshot on an iPhone connected to Carplay generates both iPhone and Carplay screenshots. Starting with iOS 26, however, only an iPhone screenshot is captured in this default situation. Carplay screenshot should be activated manually.
Third, when you take a screenshot on an iPhone 15 pro or more recent, you can now identify the content in the screenshot using the Visual Intelligence function.
Apple has redesigned the screenshot interface on iOS 26, with visual intelligence options now displayed at the bottom of the screen. “Ask” allows you to ask Chatgpt content in a screenshot, while “image search” can show you images similar to those of a screenshot on Google Images, Etsy and Pinterest. There is also an “search presentation” option which allows you to make an image search for a specific object in a screenshot.
If you prefer that screenshots appear in the form of vignettes in the lower corner to the left of the screen, as they do on the iOS 18 and anterior versions, you can deactivate the full screen windows in the new menu of screenshot.
IOS 26 is currently in beta version and the update is expected to be published in September.
