One of our new favorite features added with the beta version of the iOS 26 developer is Apple’s new “adaptive power” mode aimed at extending the battery life for the best iPhones. Unfortunately, it seems that you will need an iPhone 15 pro or more recent model to enjoy the advantages.
In the beta version of the iOS 26 developer, Apple describes the adaptive power mode as a way for your iPhone to make “small performance to extend the life of your battery”, for example by lowering the brightness of the screen and “allowing certain activities to take a little more time”. When the parameter is activated, your phone will automatically reduce its energy consumption to keep it longer between costs.
The adaptive power supply mode is different from the existing low power mode of the iPhone, which restricts background activities and starts automatically when your battery reaches 20%.
As confirmed in a weekend MacrumorsThe feature is only available on iPhone 15 Pro phones and the iPhone 16 series. Although iOS 26 is compatible with phones as old as the iPhone 11, the adaptive power mode is powered by artificial intelligence, it is therefore activated only on phones capable of executing Apple intelligence.
Below, you can find a full list of iPhone models capable of running the new adaptive power mode in iOS 26:
- iPhone 15 pro
- iPhone 15 pro max
- iPhone 16th
- iPhone 16
- iPhone 16 Plus
- iPhone 16 pro
- iPhone 16 pro max
The adaptive power supply is activated by default in the beta version of the iOS 26 developer, but you can also find it alongside the low power mode in the Battery Mode section> Power from the Settings menu.
Bloomberg Mark Gurman pointed out for the first time that Apple worked on an optimization function of the battery supplied by AI last month. At the time, Gurman said that functionality will use the “battery data it has collected from user devices” to determine applications to reduce energy consumption.
There is still hope for the lifespan of the iPhone 17 battery
The adaptive power supply mode could be particularly useful for iPhone 17 air, the ultra-thin combination of Apple. The leaks suggest that it could be delivered with a meager 2,800 mAh – 1,100 mAh less than the Samsung Galaxy S25 edge. Between this new setting and the rumors that Apple will use a new silicon carbon battery to increase the battery density up to 15%, Apple could highlight an impressive battery life in the slim chassis of the iPhone 17.
On the best Android phones, Google has a similar adaptive supply function which uses AI to predict the use of your application and restricted those that you do not visit as often by operating in the background, thus using a precious battery life in the process. Over time, Adaptive Battery learns which applications are the worst drains of the battery of your phone and limit some of their functions. In this way, the battery of your phone does not flow as much when it remained inactive.
IOS 26 remains in beta version for the moment while Apple plans to deploy the full update in the fall. The rumor says that this adds new exciting updates to the applications of the camera and photos as well as the live translation Apple Intelligence for text messages and calls.
