The next time you don’t remember the name of this song that is stuck in your head, the Gemini could help you.

A less known feature of Google Assistant was the possibility of identifying a song, either by letting it listen to a song that was playing, or by humming the melody. Pixel phones have a similar integrated feature, but if you were on another Android device, you just wondered since the assistant has gone to Gemini (or if you have used the Google application or a third party app like Shazam).

Determine the name of a song becomes a little easier this week, because Google silently gave Gemini the opportunity to name this air. There has been no official announcement, but in recent weeks, users have noticed a new button “Looking for a song” at the bottom of the Gemini assistant.

He was there on my pixel 9 pro when I checked.

How to use gemini songs

When you press “Look for a song”, a pulsating orb will seem to show that the application listens. If you hum a melody or if a song plays strong enough in the background, Gemini will compile a list of potential matches, classified by proximity percentage.

This seems to be the exact functionality of Google Search. It has not been built or refined specifically for Gemini, but it provides a new useful feature for the AI assistant from Google.

I was also able to access the functionality via the Gemini application by asking it to identify a song, but not via Gemini Live. When I tried to identify a real song playing both by the application and the assistant version, Gemini quickly responded with the right song.

Maybe my buzzing skills were the problem, but the alternative of buzzing did not work as well. When I tried twice by the assistant, the real song I thought I was huming was third on the list twice and was not at all through the application.

Although this is not a new feature, which is new – or at least what is back – is the possibility of looking for a song with a voice prompt.
