WhatsApp finally brings a document scanning function on Android, but only for these users

WhatsApp now brings a new capacity for its Android beta testers that allow them to scan documents directly from the application, a functionality available for iOS users of the application in recent months. The new feature puts an end to the need to rely on scanners of third-party documents Car WhatsApp itself creates images in documents which can be shared with different contacts.

With the new feature, WhatsApp will bring a more rationalized document sharing experience to its users by allowing them to scan, convert and transparently share documents in PDF format, by reducing the hassles of switching between different applications.

The functionality was spotted for the first time in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.25.18.29, where it remained inactive due to being still in development.

However, the functionality is now being deployed to beta testers in general, many users declaring having access to the new feature after having installed the last update of the Google Play Store.

After the latest update, a new “Digitization Document” option now appears alongside the current “Browse Documents” options and “Choose from the gallery” in the attachment menu. By clicking on the new option, will open the camera of your Android device and invites users to click on images for sharing documents.

In particular, WhatsApp also allows users to properly position their phone for sharing documents by giving them manual and automatic options. In the manual option, users can take control of the parts they wish to select for the scanning of documents, while in automatic mode, WhatsApp detects the edges of the document in order to provide an instant document sharing experience.

In other related news, WhatsApp has also deployed a new feature fueled by AI earlier this week that sums up the personal discussions of users. The functionality sustained by Meta AI allows the personal messaging application to create a summary of Bulle-Point of cats in order to provide users with a general idea of the conversation before diving further.
