Google undoubtedly collects many user data from Android phones. However, a California jury found that the research giant must pay $ 314.6 million to Android phones in the state to “abuse” their data.
Reuters Reports that the jury has arranged on the side of the complainants who filed a continuation in progress on behalf of around 14 million Californians in 2019. The trial argued that Google had collected data on inactive Android phones without authorization. This data has apparently been collected for targeted advertising, among other uses, while consuming user cellular data in the process.
The lawyer for the plaintiff Glen Summers would have declared that the decision “strengthens with force the advantages of this case and reflects the seriousness of Google’s misconduct”.
A Google spokesman said Reuters that the verdict “misunderstanding the services which are essential for the safety, performance and reliability of Android devices”, adding that the company would call. Google also told court that users had made these data transfers in the context of business confidentiality. He said that no Android user was injured by these practices.
This is not the only trial on the issue, however. A separate trial brought in the name of the 49 other states made the same claims and is said to be judged in April 2026.
