A DC-region AI platform seeks to match displaced federal workers with available jobs

The Council of Metropolitan Washington Governments (COG) deployed TalentCapital.AI to connect furloughed federal employees with current job vacancies in the Washington, DC area.

THE Council of Metropolitan Washington Governments (COG) was rolled out earlier this month TalentCapital.AIa robust workforce development initiative that uses an AI-powered platform to connect displaced federal employees to current vacancies in the Washington DC region.

COG Executive Director Clark Mercer told WTOP the platform is gaining traction.

“We have over 32,000 unique users, these are not repeat visitors,” Mercer said. “Every day we have about 3,000 active users, including one person who interacts with ‘Celeste,’ the AI agent, and goes back and forth in a healthy way in terms of job searches,” he said.

TalentCapital.AI is designed to connect talent with employers, strengthen the region’s economy and provide a lifeline to people affected by layoffs or looking to change careers, Mercer said.

Federal employees are dialing in from throughout the Washington, D.C. area, including the District, Silver Spring and Gaithersburg, Maryland, as well as Reston, Ashburn and Alexandria, Virginia, Mercer said. “So it’s all over the capital metro area, which is pretty interesting to see.”

Mercer said more than half of the site’s users use desktop computers, which could indicate they are serious about their job search.

The Talent Capital platform team reviews and eliminates dead links every day, an issue that has been raised among users of other job sites, according to Mercer.

Mayor Muriel Bowser launched the new initiative to help job seekers get back on their feet – and it combines cutting-edge technology with community support.

The program partners with George Washington University, the University of the District of Columbia and nonprofit organizations to offer practical advice.

TalentCapital.AI was created “in response to what’s happening (within the federal government),” Mercer said. “Anyone can come to the site, but special consideration is given to federal workers and contractors, and we hope this is the start of closer collaboration between our three governments on workforce development.”
