Agencies issue guidance on integrating AI in operational technology

Publication on December 3 from American and international agencies advice on the integration of artificial intelligence into operational technology. These guidelines aim to help critical infrastructure owners and operators safely integrate AI tools into operational systems, focusing on four key principles: understanding the unique risks and potential impacts of integrating AI into OT environments; assess the specific business case for using AI in OT environments and manage OT data security risks; establish AI governance and assurance frameworks; and integrating safety and security practices into AI and AI-enabled OT systems.

“These guidelines can inform hospitals in their efforts to safely integrate AI tools into physical facility operations such as energy control, HVAC, life safety systems, door access controls, physical security systems and alarms,” said John Riggi, AHA national advisor for cybersecurity and risk.
