AI in classroom NC | Board of education considers policy for artificial intelligence in Wake County Public School district

Cary, NC (WTVD) – Wake County Board of Education held the first in a series of meetings to discuss the development of the district AI policy.

The members of the Board of Directors have learned a number of AI -related subjects, including the way AI is used now and the potential risks associated with the use of growth software.

The superintendent of the WCPSS, Dr. Robert Taylor, said that the members of the Council of the Council wanted the members of the Board of Directors to be well informed before developing a policy on a district level.

“The only thing I wanted to make sure is that we have not created a situation where we restrict something that will be part of society, that our students will be responsible for learning that our teachers will be responsible for doing so,” he said.

A team from Amazon Web Services, or AWS, made advice an information on AI.

The district staff say that there is no calendar for the adoption of the policy at the moment.

AI could be a major tool for the district, the board of directors saying that it could help personalized learning plans.

However, some members of the board of directors have expressed concerns about how to teach students to use AI in a responsible manner.

“I think that the greatest concern that everyone has is academic integrity and honesty, things that can be used with AI to give false stories, false images,” said Dr. Taylor.

Mikaya Thurmond is an IA and speaker expert. She says that the district must consider including training on AI for teachers and developing rules governing the use of AI students for their political framework.

“If someone believes that students do not use AI to draw conclusions and to put their duties, at this stage, they are simply not honest on this subject,” she said.

To start, she says that students should credit AI when used on homework and show their cat story with AI programs.

“It tells me that you do at least the critical part of thought,” said Thurmond. “And then there should be assignments that no eye is authorized and others where it is integrated. But I think there must be a mixture once the educators know how to use it themselves.”

Something on which the Superintendent and Thurmond agree is a parental involvement.

They both say that parents should have conversations now with their children about the appropriate conversations to have with AI.
