Tl; DR

  • Some pixel owners have found a strange notification bug in Android 16.
  • Affected users have found that notifications read no sounds when there is already a notification in the drop -down menu.
  • Google recognized the problem and said that a fixed correction was in the next Android 16 QPR version.

Google published the stable version of Android 16 in June, and it brings welcome features to the platform. Unfortunately, the update also introduced a particular bug for some.

A user published a report on Google problems tracker In June, detailing a strange notification problem in Android 16. More specifically, the user and several others have found that notifications do not play any sounds when there is already a notification in the notification shade.

I don’t want to miss the best of Android authority?

“During the notification tests, we realized that subsequent notifications do not play any sounds, even when the volume has been set to the maximum volume, as well as do-Disturb replacement authorizations are granted (although this problem exists both when the DND mode is lit and deactivated)”, read an extract from the user’s report. “By rejecting the notifications, the next notification will play a sound.”

The problem does not seem to be limited to a specific Pixel telephone family either. The thread contains user complaints with Pixel 6 phones to the Pixel 9 range. The affected users also noted that this problem was particularly boring for alarm alerts, smart cameras and glucose monitors.

The good news is that Google recognized the problem August 7, adding that a correction was on the way:

Thank you for reporting this problem. It is set internally and will be included in the next quarterly version.

It is not clear if this buckshot will be included in Android 16 QPR1 or the QPR2 version. Liberation QPR1 should land later this month, while QPR2 is expected to arrive in December. It is therefore possible that this bug can be treated in the coming weeks. In the meantime, some users have shared bypass to solve the problem, such as paying $ 4 for the Notification manager App.
