Google has implemented a special “extra DIM” rocking in the anterior versions of Android which, starting with the Pixel 10, will be completely deleted and now implemented in the brightness cursor.
The “Extra DIM” option in Android was introduced in Android 12 as a way to make the display a little more gradator compared to the lowest adjustment on the brightness cursor. Functionality allows users a quick way to make the screen as dark as possible, which can be useful when you try to use your phone in a very dark environment. But, being a rocking, it was also easy to forget that it was on, which caused problems when the brightness goes up.
In Android 16 on the Pixel 10 series, Google deleted the dedicated “extra Dim” rocking, integrating it rather into the brightness cursor. Users quickly REMARK The change in the days following the version of the Pixel 10 thanks to a contextual window which shows (at least for some users) to explain that “Extra DIM is now part of the brightness cursor”. Android authority shared an image of the context window, as we see below.
We first noticed that Google was playing with this functionality in the beta outputs of Android 16. The rocking was first moved to the native display settings before having returned to beta 3. This new pop-up explains why.
“Extra DIM” always works as it did previously on the Pixel 10, the display output adjusting the software to reveal the content despite the brightness of the screen which does not really drop. Having it integrated into the brightness cursor makes this feeling effortlessly and essentially gives the light of the phone an additional range.
