Android skins are good, actually [Video]

There was a time when “Android Skin” was a dirty word, something that crushed and inhibited the whole platform. However, times have changed; In fact, many are incredible options, and they make Android stronger for buyers and fans.

Changing software sandage

In recent years, there has been a real change. As a material, you have somewhat stagnated, oxygenos, a user interface, hyperos and others have started to intervene to offer the type of feature that often lacks on pixel phones.

Although it is difficult not to like Android’s “clean” visual attraction on Pixel phones, it is not the richest in functionality. Google also does not offer the type of killer features that purchase a pixel for additional things a reason to choose the equipment. At least compared to the “big” Android skins, you miss a lot of keys of quality of life.

The Android Vanilla experience really does not cut it for many people. Take a user interface, for example. Each major update includes a list of new additions. A part is limited by the equipment, such as the pen or foldability, but you pull more on the box without requiring tons of additional or refining applications.

Visuals are the largest differentiator, but most Android skins are only marginally different now. We see almost identical notification panels on most versions, similar personalization controls, as well as sections of similar parameters. The animations and the visuals can differ, but for the most part, they are in locking from one phone to another.

Google Play Services has helped to decouple tons of features from full updates, and this means that we obtain impressive functions such as rapid sharing, flight detection and even Gemini with simple applications updates rather than full platform versions. You don’t always need to have the latest software version to get this type of option now.

The “Android iPhone” enigma

Personally, I don’t like The nickname “Android iPhone” These pixel phones have been given practically since the first day. I will concede, however, that Google often leaves that others on Android build specific features before taking, refining and turning them. It’s straight out of the Apple game book, but it occurs in the same way.

The dark theme, the desktop mode, the work profiles and the lock screen shortcuts were all the first on other devices before coming to the Pixel phones. Google puts its own turn on things, but without others leading the charge, many things we love today would not be on our phones.

It works in both directions, however, because Android is above all a platform, we also see exclusive features of pixels coming on other phones, whether via applications or in the operating system itself. I would say that this can decrease the way people see pixel phones, but it is not a huge affair, well considered.

For more adaptable Mobile experience, there are often much better alternative skins on Android.

Updates are regular and reliable

The update speed is not always a stumbling block now for essentially any major Android skin. If you buy a high level phone, you probably get a lot of updates in its life cycle. Samsung offers seven full years of updates to now match the Pixel. OnePlus gives you four versions of the operating system for more than six years of regular corrective.

You could wait a while to get the next operating system upgrade, but this time has also decreased considerably in recent years. OEMs understand that we, as consumers, want our devices to be updated regularly and quickly, because it makes the brand loyalty.

OnePlus was able to push Android 15 in a few weeks after the stable version of Pixel phones, which was unknown only five years ago. There are derogations. Samsung has groped the One UI 7.0 deployment, so we have a bizarre launch of a UI 8.0 and Android 16. To worsen this, as it stands, Google alone has largely published a stable Android 16 version. Samsung has devices running the last stable update. However, this only represents the last Z plus And Z flip.

The Korean company has not yet announced a broader release or any other company. You can test Drive Android 16 via various beta programs. It is not quite the same, but it offers an overview of what will happen. So, in this regard, we still have persistent problems.

All on board for optimization

It’s crazy to think that we always have people who deplore Android because budgetary devices could have lower performance. Of course, cheaper equipment has improved. It is not empty of problems and it is something that has improved considerably but which is still not perfect.

From the mid -range to the upper ladder, however, the equipment is better and the optimization is just as impressive. This certainly helps that most high -level phones use the same basic interns. From phone to phone, you get more or less locking performance. Each Android skin is set to take advantage of what is deepest, and dare I say it, we are almost in a golden age of daily experiences with modern high-end phones.

The best thing is that this additional attention to details helps all areas of the market. Unless your phone is terribly underestimated or that a buggy update has packaged certain areas, it is difficult to really blame almost all phones these days.

I will concede that the bloating still drags on many Android skins. Some companies are worse than others for this, and skins like hyperos can have advertisements. Usually, the price of a device can give a fair idea to know if it is something to fear, but like many things we have discussed, it is not as bad as in the past.

Roma, Roma, Roma

Contrary to what you could have thought. The ROM development scene is not dead.

There are smaller projects, more passionate developers and a growing feeling of community among those who always like to tinker their devices. I personally tested some of the biggest projects, including grapheneos, lineage and evolution X.

Although they are not Android skins in the traditional sense, they are always something that is close to my heart. If you want better confidentiality controls, personalization in the system which is generally not possible, or an old phone that you want to continue to operate, up to date and secure, a personalized ROM is the way to follow.

The passion of the community to maintain these projects is beyond everything you will see in the wider Android space. Also let’s not forget that companies like OnePlus owe many projects that have long been dead like Cyanogenmod to help build their database of rabid fans.

Personalized ROMs are almost unique to Android and something we hope will continue to exist. Unfortunately, Google is shy on the future of the AOSP project on which many personalized ROMs count. Whether we want it or not, Google will do what is best for Google.

Stand out on a crowded market

The conceptions are all subjective. This applies to both hardware and software.

One of the biggest problems we face with Android or Android Skins is that if each phone took place near “stock” or AOSP, there would not be much to separate each phone. Most high -level devices have practically identical basic interns. Usually, it is an Snapdragon processor, a lot of RAM, storage and a triple camera system.

Motorola and Sony are an excellent example of the reason why brands need differentiation. Motorola and Sony phones are almost the closest to the Android “Vanilla” experience we find on Pixel phones, and they are not greeted for their software. If anything, it can make the devices a little forgettable for many people. Why get an imitation of pixels when you can just get the real thing?

Conversely, people love specific features such as the OnePlus or Samsung Dex platform. These brief examples are unique reasons for obtaining a device beyond physical design or interns. You buy something that works to make your life easier, better or more fun.

There is a reason why the Android One program failed. This almost decreases the strength of the variety by making everything feel the same thing. Apple can get away, but very little Android OEM can.

Android power is the choice

The choice is the key. You do not need to choose a phone that is not suitable for your aesthetic preferences – whether hardware or software.

You can choose one that corresponds Exactly What you want. Whether it is the fastest processor or the most personalization options. Maybe even the largest battery or the most cameras. Your phone could bend or turn around. At the heart of your Android phone, however, is software skin that will take the whole experience.

The differences are not as drastic as a few years ago, but it is always a strong costume which, I hope, continues to develop.
