Tl; DR
- Google finally started to deploy the design refreshment for the integrated Android QR code scanner, which we spotted for the first time a year ago.
- The new interface brings all the lower screen buttons closer to the easier use of one hand.
- The updated QR code scanner is not widely available, but should reach all users in the coming days.
The integrated QR code scanner of Android finally obtains its design refreshment expected for a long time, a year after having spotted it for the first time in a dematuriment of a beta version of Google Play Services. The updated scanner is optimized for use with one hand and has a new smooth launch animation.
Previously, the Android QR code scanner included three buttons at the top, allowing users to close the scanner, activate the flashlight and send comments to Google. It also included a pill -shaped button near the bottom of the screen to help users scan the QR codes from a photo. In the update design, Google moved the flashlight and the feedback buttons near the bottom of the screen.

The pockets of pocket lamp, feedback and “scan from the photo” are now close to where your thumb is naturally resting, which makes them easier to access while using the phone in one hand. The Rémanié Code Code scanner also has a new nice launch animation for the Square viewfinder.
Although Google has included the overhaul of the QR code scanner in updating Google Play Changelog services for May 2025, we can confirm that it is just starting to reach users. Even with the latest update of the Google Play services installed, it is still not available on all our devices, suggesting a progressive deployment.
