Over the years, migrating from an iOS device to an Android device, and vice versa, has become a much simpler process. However, it is still bulky enough to be considered annoying and cumbersome.
Currently, the best way to migrate from an iOS device to Android with all your data intact is to use the Android Switch app. Alternatively, some might find transferring data using a USB cable more convenient. However, even with these methods, your valuable app data on the device, including specific app settings, game saves, and others, is not transferred.
Apple knows this is a problem for those migrating from iOS to Android, and it just published information on a dedicated framework designed to solve exactly that (via 9to5Mac).
The framework is called AppMigrationKit and will work with devices running iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 and later. The framework is currently in beta. Once available, it will allow you to “perform a one-time transfer of your app data on the device to or from a device running another platform.”
It’s not really for you
The framework is primarily intended for application developers. This will allow them to add support in their apps to export local user data such as settings and offline content, allowing them to be moved cleanly when migrating to Android (and vice versa).
For what it’s worth, the new framework isn’t tested for no reason. This comes shortly after Apple enthusiasts spotted the Cupertino-based tech giant working on a native ‘Transfer to Androidoption integrated directly into the iPhone settings.
It should be noted that the new framework is still in the testing phase and is among the first beta versions. There is no official release date yet. Additionally, even once it’s in developers’ hands, users will have to wait for app creators to integrate the framework into their apps (some may choose not to adopt it right away), so it’s not an overnight solution. However, the simple fact that Apple is working on a seamless migration path that will facilitate app data transfers is a win for consumers.
