Apple delays the iOS 26 features in the EU, blame the risk of confidentiality

Apple said that it would delay the offer of some of its new software features to European Union users this year, citing that regulations make them more difficult to put them on the market in the region, reports the Wsj. The company’s lawyers said on Monday that tools such as an encrypted service of “visited places”, which follows and records users, will not be deployed in the EU when it is published by its iOS 26 software update this year.

Speaking during a workshop with EU managers and developers in Brussels, Kyle Andeer, Vice-President of Apple Legal, said: “We have already made the decision to delay the publication of the products and features that we announced this month for our EU customers.” Andeer argued that compliance with DMA requirements creates “real risk of confidentiality, security and security for our users”. The company has said that it always analyzes the features that can be affected, but work to find solutions to deliver them as quickly as possible.

The announcement comes after the European Commission ordered Apple in March to open nine specific iOS connectivity features to improve interoperability with third -party devices. Apple has since called upon the order, declaring that requirements threaten the basis of its products and have security risks for European customers.

It is only a front in the current regulatory battle of Apple in the EU. In April, the Commission inflicted a fine on Apple 500 million euros for violating the anti-stenuation rules, noting that the company unjustly prevented the developers from directing users to better offers outside the App Store. In response, Apple revised its commercial terms for EU developers this month.

During the Brussels workshop, Andeer’s statements on security were challenged by a representative of the Open Web Advocacy campaign group, who asked how Apple could use credible security as defense when fraudulent applications appeared on the App Store. An EU official in Reunion noted that the regulator and the apple remain divided on the scope of the DMA and the potential safety risks.
