Apple Notes in iOS 26 works better than ever with my favorite writing tool

Apple Notes is upgraded with new features each year, and iOS 26 is no exception. Among the handful of notes changes in iOS 26, the application now works better than ever with Markdown thanks to importing and export management for my essential writing tool.

Markdown is a text formatting tool Created by John Gruber And commonly used by journalists, researchers, developers, content creators and other online writers. I use it personally every day for all my 9TO5MAC By writing.

Gruber’s creation allows you to write raw text that uses titles, links, flea and numbered lists, daring and italic formatting, and more. You can then take this raw text and transform it into a format published as HTML or Rich Text.

Despite the growing popularity of Markdown over the years, Apple Notes has never supported it.

But in iOS 26, the notes allows users to import and export text using Markdown.

If you want to import Markdown into a note, it can be done in two ways:

  1. You can share a Markdown file using the sharing sheet and press the notes icon to import it
  2. Or in iPados 26, there is a menu “Import à Notes …” Option in the “menu bar” notes

Export is also done via the sharing sheet, but from the inside of the note you want to export.

Just press the new option “Export as Markdown” in the sharing sheet.

This new addition iOS 26 means that notes can now be used to write in Markdown. However, you will not see the style taking effect inside the application, only after its export.

And you can easily provide existing markdown files in notes and have them preserved significant formatting as part of the import process, including links, titles, etc.

Are you delighted to see the import and export of Markdown coming to Apple notes in iOS 26? Let us know in the comments.
