This year, Apple could launch iOS 26 instead of the widely awaited iOS 19.
It is according to a new report of Bloomberg Mark GurmanWho claims that Apple works on a major brand change in all of its operating systems, which will be identified per year instead of the version number.
This means that in 2025 Apple could launch iOS 26, MacOS 26, Watchos 26, TVOS 26 and Visionos 26.
This is a fairly important affair for Apple, which changed the brand of iOS only once – the first three versions were called iPhone OS, Apple passing to iOS in 2010. The company maintained the name program until 2024.
Ancient technological nerds will also remember that Microsoft used to identify its Windows operating systems per year in 1995, 1998 and 2000, although it later went to version numbers (the latest version being Windows 11).
For Apple, change has meaning. The company’s operating systems do not currently have a coherent denomination scheme – the current version of Apple’s mobile operating system is iOS 18, unlike MacOS 15 and Visionos 2.
If the report is precise, however, Apple will use next year for its operating system, which means that the versions that launch in 2025 will be called “26”, etc.

According to Gurman, Apple will announce this change during its global conference for developers, which starts on June 9.
It is not just the name. Apple would have presented a new look through its operating systems – something we heard in previous reports.
