Before the unveiling of iOS 19 to WWDC25 next week, Apple chip Updated the adoption figures iOS 18. As of June 4, 2025, the operating system feeds 88% of all iPhones launched in the past four years.
This number falls slightly at 82% when you consider all active iPhones. More iPhones adopted iOS 18 than iOS 17 in the same period last year.
iOS 18 spreads faster than iOS 17
In June 2024, Apple statistics said 86% of iPhones in the past four years have run iOS 17, the figure that fell 77% for all active iPhones. In comparison, a higher percentage of iPhone users, especially those who have older models, have upgraded to iOS 18 this year.
The main additions of iOS 18, including Apple Intelligence, probably encouraged faster adoption. The number will probably increase a little more before Apple publicly releases iOS 19 / iOS 26 in September 2025.

Since iOS 18 supports devices from the 2018 iPhone XS, it is not an easy task. If anything, it shows the excellent Apple software support strategy and how it updates its old devices with new features for years after the release.
The adoption of iPados 18 also exceeds iPados 17
Apple has also shared the adoption statistics of iPados 18. It operates on 81% of the devices launched in the past four years, iPados 17 operating on 12%. The figure drops from 10% to 71% when you consider all active iPads. About 14% of all active devices still perform iPados 17, 15% using an even older construction.
For comparison, in June 2024, 86% of the iPads launched in the past four years have run iPados 17. This number fell to 68% when all active iPads are taken into account.
The faster adoption of new iOS and iPados versions brings several advantages. It allows developers to take advantage of new APIs to create more convincing applications. New versions also generally contain new security and confidentiality features.
IOS 19 / iOS 26 will occupy the stage next week when the WWDC25 will start on June 9. Apple will also focus more on the release of its beta versions after that, pushing only minor updates, safety or bug fixation for iOS 18.
