The C1 Modem recently published by Apple has obtained an excellent press, but also seems to have a significant security defect which requires the installation of iOS 18.5 to repair it.
According to Macworld, with the iOS 18.5 version on Monday, a correction was issued with regard to the iPhone 16th Modem C1, where a pirate with network privileges could divert traffic. You will find below the security tickets section that describe the problem.
The details are as follows:
- Impact: an attacker in a privileged network position may be able to intercept network traffic
- Description: This problem was resolved by improving state management.
- CVE-2025-31214: 秦若涵, 崔志伟 and 崔宝江
- The corresponding CVE recording in the CVE database is always listed as reserved and will be made public once it has been updated.
Given the speed of which Apple has published the fix – the phone has only been released for less than three months – it seems to be a serious problem.
With the C1 fix, iOS 18.5 includes around thirty security corrections ranging from Applejpeg to Webkit. It is recommended to install the update immediately.
The iOS 18.5 update can be located, downloaded and installed by navigating to the parameters> General> software update and following the prompts. The iPhone will have to restart, so plan to use your iPhone accordingly.
Stay listening for more details as they become available.
