Apple’s musical application in iOS 26 wins my favorite mac functionality

A major theme of Apple software this year is unification, as shown in the new liquid glass design and the parity of more multiplatform functionalities. In the area of improving the parity of application features on platforms, there is excellent new capacity in the musical application of iOS 26 which had been exclusive to the creation of Mac files: Playlist.

Playlist files can now be created in the musical application on iPhone and iPad

More than most Apple applications, the musical application has a complex history of offering different features on the Mac than on the iPhone and iPad.

This is partly because the Mac version of the music was formerly iTunes.

Apple gave him a lift and a brand change years ago, but a large part of the inherited iTunes functionality is still there – but has never come to the iOS music application.

There is a leading example that I always wanted on my iPhone and iPad: the creation of Playlist files.

Mac’s musical application has long offered the possibility of organizing your reading lists in files. These files would then synchronize with your other devices, but you could never create or modify them outside of MacOS.

Fortunately, iOS and iPados 26 set this limitation.

From now on, Playlist files can be created and the reading lists move between the files directly from your iPhone or iPad.

This is the type of functionality that I thought never expanded beyond the Mac.

The creation of files has existed for so long on MacOS, and Apple year after year, neglected to bring the functionality to its other platforms. I just supposed that in the end, he would disappear completely, even from the Mac.

I am delighted to be wrong, because I do not use Mac often, and playlist files are a great way to keep my music library growing.

Regarding requests for personal features, it is now the second musical functionality that I wanted for a long time that Apple added in iOS 26, joining pinned music.

Did you know that Playlist files existed in Apple’s musical application? Do you think you will use them in iOS 26? Let us know in the comments.
