Apple takes a major tour with Carplay after a decade not to allow video reading. Starting with iOS 26, Apple will allow applications to display the video via the Carplay screen during their parking. Support, however, is a big question mark for the moment.
The new capacity falls under the name of “video in the car” and is mentioned on Apple developer website For Carplay:
The airplay video in the car allows people to watch their favorite iPhone videos directly on their carplay display when they do not drive. Integrate Carplay support with AirPlay Video to activate this feature in your car.
Apple points developers and car manufacturers interested in creating and supporting Carplay applications with video reading to find out more:
If you are interested in supporting Carplay, Carplay Ultra, Airplay Video or Car Keys in your vehicle system, learn more about the MFI program.
In April, a third -party application managed to obtain a Carplay web browser with video playback via the Review App, but the functionality was then deleted.
From this fall, video reading during its parking will be officially authorized for the first time since the arrival of Carplay.
Do not expect the support to be universal, however, because each car manufacturer will control whether or not the AirPlay video in the car function.
It is also important to note that we should not expect to see the video reading work during the period of developer / public beta iOS 26. We do not know if we will really see the video reading of immediately, even after the official publication of iOS 26 in September, because the support requires explicit car manufacturer. We will not assure you to provide additional coverage as soon as car manufacturers are starting to adopt support.
Apple also improves Carplay in iOS 26 with redesigned icons and options, supporting widgets and music updates, messages, etc.
