The CEO of Wave Digital Assets, David Siemer, told Newsmax on Tuesday that cryptocurrency burglaries like the one concerning North Korean agents recently accused of having stolen nearly a million dollars in cryptographic active ingredients “will continue”, so people must remain vigilant.
Federal prosecutors announced this week the acts of accusation against four North Korean agents which, according to the FBI, used false identities to obtain remote computer jobs in the United States. The suspects would then have used their business access to the booty nearly a million dollars in digital currency of a blockchain startup based in Atlanta.
“This is nothing new for our industry, and it is in fact nothing new for many industries now,” said Siemer on “National Report”. “Remote work is there to stay. We have seen that a lot of times, where people thought they were hiring Americans and they turned out that they directed servers through a proxy in UTAH or something, and you end up hiring the North Korean. “
Speaking specifically from the Georgia operation, Siemer said it was “a fairly small feat”, in terms of what was lost against Pyongyang.
“Until now, North Korea has taken the estimate at around 2.5 billion dollars so far, other places of cryptography,” he said. “So, it will continue and, obviously, with the previous segment, with the rise of AI (artificial intelligence), you will just see much more. The AI makes it very effective not only a human team by doing this, but you can have a thousand, a million boots teams by doing this and doing it quite intelligently. So, everyone must be more prudent.”
According to the US prosecutor’s office for the North Georgia district, the four North Korean nationals were charged in a fraud by five accounts and an indictment of money laundering last week.
The objective, according to the FBI, was to generate income to finance illegal programs of the North Korean regime, including its arms program.
