Apple has just launched its new iPhone 17 series, and each model is available to pre -order now. I never had an iPhone, and my last experience using one was probably the iPhone 6, but Apple’s latest phones are certainly quite attractive, even as a long -standing Android user.
Given the unhappy disinterest of Apple to develop another iPod Touch, I went back and forth on the purchase of an iPhone, and each year, I have the impression that the temptation becomes stronger. With the iPhone 17 series, I have the impression that it is at the head, and now it only remains to decide which model would be best for me and to see how they compare themselves to their Android counterparts.
The iPhone 17: a welcome step
For me, the basic iPhone always looked like the poor’s iPhone, because it did a lot of compromise to maintain the price, especially when you put it next to comparable Android phones. However, Apple seems to have obtained memo, bringing many notable upgrades that finally make the base iPhone 17 worth watching.
To start, it has a 120 Hz OLED screen, up the 60 Hz panel on the previous models. It is shocking Apple waited so long to bring it to a phone of $ 800. It also has a cooling rate of 1 to 120 Hz, which exceeds the 60 to 120 Hz display of the Pixel 10.
The faster load means that it reaches 50% in just 20 minutes, the more the load of Magsafe Qi2 25W is something that you will only find on the Pixel 10 range 10 pro XL. Unfortunately, there are only two rear cameras, but the front obtains the selfie camera from the improved central scene, which allows you to crop your photos without physically turning the phone.
At $ 800, the Galaxy S25 and the Pixel 10 are delivered with a third camera for the 3X and 5X telephoto lens zoom, respectively, an iPhone in terms of camera equipment. The Galaxy S25 is missing the magnetic load, and the two Android phones limit wireless load speeds to 15 W.
That said, for the same $ 800, the iPhone 17 also gives you double storage at 256 GB, something I hope will become standard on more Android phones, although it has less RAM to work.
Regarding design, the pastel colors of the iPhone are certainly much less interesting than the Base Galaxy S25 or Pixel 10 colors. However, there seems to be a lot of value here, making the iPhone 17 of the base a convincing purchase.
iPhone 17 pro / pro max: more than one good thing
The basic iPhone 17 is tempting if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a new phone, but the iPhone 17 pro and pro max are intended for power users and anyone looking for the best absolute experience in Apple.
This means impressive photos, thanks to the 48MP triple camera system, improved video capabilities with the management of Prores RAW and the newspaper 2, and an advanced A19 proce that Apparently requests the snapdragon 8 elite by a large margin. As a person who likes to adapt to the videography, cameras are the most attractive aspect of professional phones for me, especially compared to the fairly dull video capabilities of the pixel.
The new 48MP telephoto lens camera also goes to the ultra galaxy S25 with its 4x optical zoom and its 8X optical quality zoom. This is just shy of the 5x telephoto lens of the Galaxy and the Zoom Optical Zoom ranges of the Galaxy, but it is not a huge difference, especially since the iPhone 17 Pro has one less camera sensor with whom to work.
The A19 PRO chip has integrated neural accelerators to improve the capacities of AI, although we know that Apple Intelligence has not made its promises. On the other hand, you will find a robust AI suite on comparable phones, such as the Pixel 10 Pro and Galaxy S25 series, which display Google AI and Galaxy AI. This undoubtedly makes Android offers a little more attractive for potential buyers who care about having the coolest and coolest AI features.
However, in terms of raw energy, Apple probably the rest and the pixel is not getting closer.
Regarding design, the iPhone 17 Pro can win. I have never taken care of the moderate design of Samsung, and although the Pixel 10 series has a fantastic design, the pro models obtain the least interesting colors. The iPhone 17 PRO has a fairly unique look with a little glass entirely in aluminum. The camera tray does not look half bad, and the Cosmic Orange color is one of the best I saw on a phone.
iPhone Air: Too much compromise?
In particular, there is only one camera, which probably takes superb photos, but it lacks flexibility. Even the Galaxy S25 edge, which is almost as slim, has a secondary secondary camera, which can be practical. And after using the Razr plus 2024 for a year, I don’t want to have to go there anymore.
There is also only one speaker mounted on the top, which means that you will not get this stereo experience to have speakers on each side of the phone. For some, it may not be a huge affair, but I know very well that it makes me.
Apple claims the lifespan of the battery for a day, on which I certainly pose, but we will have to wait and see how this affirmation holds without resorting to a portable magsafe charger. The Galaxy S25 Edge has resisted better than expected, but it is by no means a battery king.
In the end, I really want to like iPhone air. However, in this state, it looks too much like a gadget, a bit like the Galaxy S25 Edge. If anything, it is a good practice for a possible foldable iPhone, but I will probably not hold until the next iPhone goes.
