Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam cybercrime police arrested an accused based in Delhi in connection with major cryptocurrency fraud which dubbed a local doctor of 2.61 Rs via an elaborate stock trading scam.
The accused, identified as Rajeev Bhansali (also known as Rajiv Bansal or Saleem Khan), a resident of Lajpat Nagar, Sahidabad, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in Delhi and brought to Visakhapatnam during the transit move for a more in -depth investigation.
According to cyber crime inspector Circle Bhawani Shankar, the case was recorded in January following a complaint filed by the victim to the city police commissioner. The investigation revealed that in December 2023, the doctor was added to the WhatsApp groups named “BSE & NSE Deep Insight -9827” and “Share – 999”.
Cybercriminals convinced the victim that investment in scholarships, institutional shares, over -the -counter shares (OTC) and initial public offers (IPO) would result in substantial benefits in a short period of time. They also created false trading accounts on telegram channels, promising high yields to attract the victim.
“The doctor was deceived by joint -stock fraud. He joined a telegram channel where they created false accounts that are represented promising high yields.
The survey revealed that the Cyber Gang had used sophisticated methods to whiten stolen funds. After receiving RS 2.61 from the victim, criminals converted money into cryptocurrency and then withdrawn money via automatic ticket distributors in Delhi and the surrounding area.
During the arrest, the police seized several articles, including laptops, passing manuals, official stamps, mobile phones and the accused’s ATM cards.
“We recorded the case and the investigation is underway to discover more details and apprehend other gang members,” said Bhawani Shankar.
