One of the most important things you ask when buying a new Android phone is “what is your battery like?”. It is important to know that your phone will last you for a full day of SMS, music broadcasting or navigation in life.
More recent smartphones are delivered with increasingly large batteries, but also with more and more advanced features to compensate. Fortunately, you can easily increase the life of your battery by deactivating one or two of the said Android features … or eight, if you really want to continue your smartphone.
I have been using Android phones for years via Techradar and during this time, I have come to determine which features really eat through your battery. So, to help you increase the lifespan of your battery, I will make you spend through those I deactivate when I have to keep my phone lasts longer. Together, they will help you add hours on the daily execution of your phone, although some will affect how you use your phone.
I will also tell you how to deactivate features. Although the process is different depending on the Android phone you have, most of the settings are very similar.
1. Hits always on
If your battery flows too quickly, the first thing you need to check is whether you have a screen always activated, as it can be a huge power drain.
The display always on is a function where when you do not use your phone, it will have a kind of icon or a screen saving appearing. According to your phone, make it a simple graphic, a clock or a list of notifications.
Whatever your display is still on, use means that your phone must spend costs. Should your phone screen be turned on if you don’t use it?
The display always on can be deactivated in the setting of your phone settings. Depending on your model, it could be in your wallpaper menu, locking or display screen.
2. Show refreshment speeds
One of the specifications often completed in any Android phone review is the refreshment rate of the display: 120 Hz, 144Hz, 165 Hz, each corresponding to the number of times per second that the image of the screen is updated.
If it is true that the higher refresh rates make the movement smoother and more pleasant, not everyone notice the difference. What is perceptible is the speed with which it makes your battery fall.
Most phones use, by default, a variable refresh rate mode that sticks to the “standard” of 60 Hz unless you do something that directly uses higher refreshment rates. But to save the battery, you must deactivate this and stick to the lowest rate that your phone can manage, which will probably be at 60 Hz.
3. Stop with notifications
A simple that most people forget: if you want your phone to use less energy, deactivate notifications.
Imagine this: your phone is lying, unused. Then the screen lights up because you received a WhatsApp message; Then Uber Eats has a discount; Your gym application wonders why you never go; This WhatsApp message is only one in a busy group cat that never stops.
Whenever the phone lights up, you need battery to do so, and if you receive many notifications, this will eat a lot of load. Doubly, if the notifications encourage you to start using your phone.
In the parameter application of your telephone application, there will probably be a notification menu that allows you to choose how notifications appear, but there should also be an application menu that lists each application. In this, you can change the authorizations so that only certain applications can inform you, which is a nice common ground.
4. Finish the automatic brightness
More than most of the entries on this list, the choice to stop using automatic brightness will affect how you use your phone. But it will certainly save you the battery.
Almost all Android devices these days have an automatic brightness function that changes how brilliant your screen is depending on where you are. It will become brighter when you are in direct sunlight, gradator when you are in a low light environment, etc.
The setting brings the screen of your phone to easy to see and do for your eye comfort, but if you wish, you can deactivate self-brilliance and keep it low at any time to save on energy consumption.
Of course, this means that you may have trouble seeing the screen at certain times, but you can then lift yourself up and lower yourself.
Automatic brightness can usually be deactivated in the quick settings menu by pressing an “A” or similar icon on the brightness bar.
5. Stop living wallpapers
Anecdotal, my live wallpapers live to wallpapers seemed one of the greatest changes to save the battery life that I tried.
Live wallpapers are something that most Android phones offer, but many just have one or two. It is mainly telephone backgrounds that move slightly, sometimes small quantities when you slide or sail and others lazily over time.
As you can probably guess, using a moving wallpaper on a non-movement can be a fairly serious draw on your battery. Users concerned with battery will want to make sure they use a static image to save energy loads.
This can be done in the wallpaper settings of your phone, which is often in the personalization section of the Settings application and can often be found simply by pressing and holding an empty place of the menus on your phone.
6. Disable Light mode
There has always been a debate on the question of whether the dark mode really saves you as much power. According to Purdue UniversityIts use will save you 3 to 9% of a full load, which is nothing to turn your nose.
Dark mode, for those who do not know, changes the appearance of your phone (and compatible applications, many of which) to use a dark background instead of a lighter. Black pixels are, on an OLED screen (which most phones use today), so in theory, the display does not use expenditure for them.
In practice, the high brightness of most modern telephone screens compensates for the majority of battery savings, but deactivating light mode for dark mode will always help you.
You can do this in the display or brightness pages of the settings for your phone settings, and some also have it in the quick settings.
7. Disconnect from the Internet
This option can be horrible in modern times, but if you disconnect from the Internet, you will save costs. By that I mean, extinguish the Wi-Fi and cellular connections of your phone in the menu of quick scanning settings.
It works on two fronts. Firstly, your phone does not use its connectivity chips, which is particularly useful if you use a 5G power of power, but will always help you with the battery if you do not.
Second, without connectivity, you are not … Well, connected to the Internet, of course.
This means that you will not get notifications like detailed above, but your applications will not automatically be back in the background, many background functions will stop. It is the same as to turn on the plane mode, that many people will save the battery, but this list concerns the features that you “deactivate” not those that you “activate”.
Have you disabled some of the above features, but you always want to train your phone to be a light electric saving machine? There are a few other things you can do.
None of the remaining options are huge battery lifeguards, each saving you less than 1% of a full load on your smartphone, but together, they could help you.
First of all, Bluetooth (if you don’t use it, of course). It does not drain almost as much energy if nothing is connected as if it is, but it still uses a little power. Likewise, NFC can be returned, and it is economical to light it only when you want to make a payment.
If your phone has a RAM Boost option, it does not use much power normally, but there is a chance that you use it without knowing it from time to time, if you have multiple or high intensity applications on the go. Turn it off and you never avoid using it, and therefore giving it permission to use the battery.
