Finished but not forgotten: the survey reveals that Android users most lack these features

Our smartphones have undergone a deep merchant. But forging them in objects that we use and on which we count for almost all hours of watch, the telephone companies have concentrated a lot on the optimization of public services, which, in turn, led to the deletion of many key features of our beloved devices. Nowadays, leading brands are particularly insisting to further reduce phones, even against what users can really want.

So, to get an idea of the features of our readers who are most lacking, we have recently asked you what features among the people abandoned by the telephone companies that you miss most. Thanks to those of you who participated and shared their point of view, we know that we are not alone in missing these features which were formerly fundamental elements of our smartphones but which are now rare.

What abandoned Android phone features are you missing the most?

More than 4,000 of you have voted and have told us what telephone features you are hurting. Although we do not have a clear winner of the survey, our results indicate that an almost equal number of people aspire to two key characteristics. The 3.5 mm headphone jack and the easy -to -replace battery were at the top of our results, receiving approximately 27% and 25% of votes respectively.

We were not surprised by the best choices, although the results were more tangled than we had initially planned. Just behind the two best choices, there were extensible storage and notification LEDs from the old Android devices. This was also obvious, because over the years, larger and much faster internal storage options have eliminated the need for hot SD cards, but they have not replaced the ease of data transfer from one device to another. And although brands like Nothing have tried to reinvent the OG notification LED with modern solutions such as light bands or points matrix interfaces, they have not been able to recreate the charm and disalteration of the tiny multicolored LED.

Meanwhile, fewer people said they lacked the Blaster Ir, probably because some phones, like the OnePlus 13, still offer it. Meanwhile, FM radio is missed, but only by a small fraction.

Some of our readers have also suggested features that we do not initially take into account, such as the two front speakers or the compression gestures of the Pixel 3, the Soli radar for the unlocking of the face on the Pixel 4 and the fingerprint scanners on the devices. Some comments also rekindled memories at the time when the modding of Android devices with Roma and personalized nuclei was popular.

However, a reader has left a very deep note on the nature of the phone market. Kamil Devonish speaks for many of us when they say that the market delivers now very similar devices.

What I miss is the choice … In the race to optimize these supply chains, we have sort of installed ourselves on phones which are in many ways somewhat worse than the things that we had before.Kamil Devonish

Many of our commentators have also noted that they lacked more than one functionality, and I agree. But if I had to restart a functionality, it would be the headphone jack. I lack the ease of blocking one device and in another in a second, without the arduous process of having to couple or an odd – while facing the limits in terms of devices that we can connect at the same time.

Above all, I get bored to sit with a close friend or a loved one and share one of the two headphones with them while listening to the same soundtracks or music. Even if we can also reproduce it with wireless headphones, the lack of threads allowed us to be reserved for our own personal spaces and to become distant as human beings. In this transition, we have started to focus more on the usefulness of technology while ignoring the emotions to which these channels have led.
