Tl; DR
- Google is testing a cleaner locking screen arrangement for pixels that rest the elements of the at a glance widget.
- The date and the weather are moved below or next to the clock, while the complication of information is separated.
- Spotted in Android 16 Beta 4, this cleaner provision is not yet activated by default and its official release date is unknown.
One of the best Pixel features only is the tight integration of Google into a glance widget with the pixel launcher and the locking screen. Although the AT WIDGG is available on other Android devices, the Pixel version offers many more features. The at a glance widget is well placed at the top of the pixel launcher home page on the Pixel devices, but its placement is more dynamic on the locking screen. The current placement of the locking screen can be congested, so Google works on a cleaner new provision.

The current arrangement of the locking screen on Google Pixel phones places the widget with a glance above the clock when the clock is centered, and below the clock when it is at the top. The widget has three complications: one showing the date, another showing the weather and a third display of information extracts from the operating system and select the applications (like Google Clock) in a carousel with horizontal scroll. (The Android widget APIs do not allow widgets to scroll horizontally, which is why at a glance is not technically a widget, but it is the nearest term.)
Notifications appear under the widget at a glance. The number of notifications that can adapt to the screen depends on the visible of the third information complication, because its presence reduces the space available for notifications.

Hidden in the fourth beta version of Android 16 is a new locking screen arrangement that moves the complications of the widget at a glance. Date and weather complications move under the clock when it is centered and to the right of the clock when it is above. The complication of information is now separated, seated at the top when there are no notifications and below the clock when notifications are present. This separation results in a cleaner overall look for the locking screen.

The new provision of the lock screen is not activated by default in Android 16 Beta 4, but it is fully functional once activated manually. We do not know when Google plans to publish this new layout, but it could happen alongside other lock screen changes, such as the new compact notification shelf. Google is experimenting with several modifications to unclog the locking screen; Some, like this new provision and the compact platform, seem likely for liberation, while others, such as the function of transparent notifications, seem less likely to get started. We believe that Google will probably deploy this new locking screen arrangement, but probably not in the next stable version of Android 16.
